Member profile: Greater Manchester Ethnic Communities Network

The Greater Manchester Ethnic Communities Network (GMECN) is a network of organisations across Greater Manchester, representing the lived experience and voice of communities experiencing racial inequalities.

GMECN is dedicated to supporting and empowering ethnically diverse communities, challenge and highlight systemic inequalities and work to support communities to address racial inequality.

Their purpose is to create a cohesive, collaborative and supportive  environment by providing space to network, connect and learn from each other, be better informed and knowledgeable and utilise opportunities for growth and development.

They achieve this through:

Engagement: GMECN organises quarterly networking meetings and other activities to bring members together to collaborate, profile their sector, facilitate mutual support, share information and opportunities, with the aim of building strong networks and support systems.

Advocacy: They advocate for the rights and needs of global majority communities, working with a wide range of stakeholders to influence policies and practices that promote equality and inclusivity.

Capacity Building: GMECN offers learning and development opportunities to enhance the skills and capabilities of community organisations and members, connect them to leadership roles and contribute effectively to their communities.

Partnerships: GMECN collaborates with various organisations and initiatives, locally and nationally, to address funding barriers and support community projects. These partnerships help GMECN to leverage resources and expertise, amplifying their impact.
