Race Equality Week and Greater Manchester Hate Crime Awareness Week
This week (2nd - 8th February 2026) we’re marking Race Equality Week and Greater Manchester Hate Crime Awareness Week.
Our focus this week is on improving awareness and clarity, and supporting the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector (VCFSE) to tackle community tensions.
That includes reinforcing that hate crime and racial discriminationare never acceptable, and that hate crime reporting routes are available. We all have a right to live without fear, hostility and intimidation from others.
Supporting Race Equality
Race Equality Week is an annual awareness week, run by Race Equality Matters that focuses on supporting meaningful conversations and action around race equality in the workplace and beyond.
To mark Race Equality Week, we have added a new ‘Community Cohesion’ tag to our website's resources page, making it easier for organisations, leaders, and partners to find materials that support stronger, more connected communities across Greater Manchester.
The new tag brings together a growing collection of guidance, reports, and tools focused on fostering positive relationships between diverse groups, promoting inclusion, and strengthening communities. It forms part of continued efforts to ensure our website remains useful, up‑to‑date and aligned with the needs of the wider VCFSE sector across Greater Manchester.
To see the full range of resources, visit here and filter the Theme by ‘Community Cohesion’. Alternatively, visit this link where the filter is pre-set: www.vcfseleadershipgm.org.uk/resources?theme=Community+Cohesion
Reporting hate crime
Hate crimes are acts of violence or hostility directed at people because of who they are or who someone thinks they are. Hate crimes can take many different forms - for example someone may have damaged your property because of the colour of your skin, sent you offensive letters because of what you believe, or behaved violently towards you because of who you love. No hate crime is acceptable.
