Campaigns we support

One of our key focus areas is campaigning. We aim to provide a voice for the sector to meet our vision of a more unified Greater Manchester.

Key statistics

71% are micro-organisations with incomes of less than £10,000
16% are small, 10% are medium and 3% are large
The total income of the sector in 2019/2020 was £1.2 billion
500,000 volunteers give 1.4 million hours each week
The value of volunteer time was valued at £692 million

We have led our own campaigns that aim to improve the working environment for VCFSE organisations in Greater Manchester, including around how social value is measured and recognised, sector-wide instability, and recognition of the important role of our sector in Greater Manchester.

As a Leadership Group, we also support the following campaigns and movements. We aim to share updates and content from these various campaigns through our channels.

Community Wealth Building Movement

Community wealth building is an approach to economic development that changes the way that our economies function, retaining more wealth and opportunity for the benefit of local people.

Fair Begins Here

An ongoing campaign calling for a fair new plan for refugees that works for everyone. We want an approach to the asylum system that is well-managed, fair and compassionate.

Greater Manchester Citizens

We support the work of Greater Manchester Citizens who have come together to overcome injustice and win change on the things that local communities care about most across the city.

Greater Manchester Living Income

This campaign is working to transform the social security system. The campaign is for a small Living Income pilot in Greater Manchester to show that this approach works and learn how it can be expanded.

Hope not Hate

A movement pushing back against hate and standing up for stronger, more united communities.

Never More Needed

This campaign aims to spread the word to policymakers and the public about the vital roles the charity and voluntary sector play in society.

Positive Masculinities

Led by GM VCFSE Leadership Group members, Unlimited Potential, this ongoing campaign aims to shift attitudes and behaviours towards positive masculinity within different age groups and to reduce gender-based violence against women and girls.

Real Living Wage

This campaign asks employers to accredit themselves with the Living Wage Foundation, ensuring all internal and contracted staff get paid at least the real Living Wage so they can meet the cost of living. Our Members Protocol states that GM VCFSE Leadership Group members must be accredited employers.

Uncertain Futures– A Manifesto

Uncertain Futures is a collaborative art and research project which aims to highlight and analyse the intersectional inequalities facing women over 50 around work. The Manifesto, a distillation of the key findings from the project, declares that “Women over 50 have the right to equality, good work, recognition of unpaid labour and participate fully indecision-making”.
